Waldorf School of Pittsburgh

A nonprofit organization

Our mission is to provide high quality education to students using the Waldorf curriculum and pedagogy through which we acknowledge and honor the balance of the artistic, academic, emotional, and spiritual needs of children. Parents, faculty and others interested in social renewal through education strive to be involved in mutual learning opportunities in order to create a community based on the ideals of holistic engagement of head, heart, and hands and social transformation.

Our school's early childhood programs (Little Friends, Morning Garden, Nursery and Kindergarten) recognize that infants and young children are entirely given over to their physical surroundings; they absorb the world primarily through their senses and respond in the most active mode of knowing: imitation. In our early childhood programs, children deepen their capacity of imagination through stories, song, painting, cooking and engagement with natural materials. The Waldorf grade school curriculum (grades 1-8) is rich and also intricately coordinated with an understanding of the developing child. The presentation of subjects is interdisciplinary and is designed to engage each child's conceptual life, feeling life and will. Across the grades, students study foreign languages, mathematics, botany, art, music, history, physics, chemistry, language arts, life sciences and human anatomy and physiology.
