INTERSECTIONS Textile Learning Center & Gallery

A nonprofit organization

INTERSECTIONS Textile Learning Center & Gallery (ITLC) was formed in 2013 to actively promote, display the textile and fiber arts of artists in the Brazos Valley. We also introduce fiber arts techniques to the public through free workshops, individual instruction and formal classes. ITLC is operated by volunteers who are member fiber arts enthusiasts. ITLC is also the brick and mortar Guildhouse for the Brazos Spinners & Weavers Guild which has been in existence since 1976.

Our public outreach works in two ways: primarily, we offer free workshops which introduce the public through a wide variety of textile and fiber arts techniques and hands-on instruction to various age groups. More advanced techniques are taught in more formal classes. Some of these are single classes for specific techniques and others are a series of classes to cover a topic in greater hands-on detail.
Secondarily, we demonstrate our spinning and weaving skills at many public events. These include Art Step & First Friday in Downtown Bryan, Texas Independence at Washington-on-the-Brazos & Independence, Boonville Days at the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History, the Brazos Historical Society 4th of July celebration at Heritage Park, The Cotton Gin Festival in Burton, Fanthorpe Inn, Millican Reserve and the Farmers Market in Downtown Bryan. We have given lectures at the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History and the Stark Gallery at Texas A&M University. We have assisted with the development and curation of exhibits at the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History and the Stark Gallery. We have given tours of our facility to groups from Houston and Austin. We also serve as a gallery space to display, showcase and sell works by local textile and fiber artists who are members of INTERSECTIONS. These artists are also our workshop and class instructors, and demonstrators at cultural events.

Testimonials

Intersections is an important resource in the Brazos Valley community. It adds richness and texture by bringing fiber art forms here that we would not get any other way. For myself, I have learned how to felt material, how to paint on silk, how to weave different materials, how to make cords and to integrate them together, how to make lovely objects from raffia, and much more. In each case the class was taught by an expert who was so personable and knowledgeable that the learning was not only easy but a pleasure. This kind of outreach to our community not only furthers knowledge and appreciation of the arts but also improves our quality of life, making our community a better place to live. --- Susan Irza - Retiree

Great place, lovely people, eager to explore everything fibre and textiles and ever ready to teach....and yeah their gift store is one of the best I have ever come across with beautiful handmade/handwoven gifts. --- Neeli Titlee - Novato CA

I LOVE everything about this wonderful place. The weaver's/artist's work is exceptional. I believe I have bought 7 pieces (mostly scarves) for myself as well as many other gift items. What's available for purchase is always stunning. I receive compliments and questions daily on the pieces I wear. A gem of a find! Get over there! --- Red Rocks Toffee Company Ltd., Morrison CO
