Our Story and Our Mission:

For nearly three decades, the West End Community Empowerment Project of Lexington, Inc. has stood as a stabilizing force, a safe haven, and a bridge to opportunity for children and families in the heart of Lexington. We were born out of a simple belief: every child no matter their zip code deserves a chance to thrive, and every family deserves support, dignity, and access to resources that help them grow.

We are a 30-year community organization committed to uplifting, strengthening, and empowering children, youth, and families in Lexington’s West End and beyond. Our mission, “Reclaiming the Invisible while Achieving the Impossible,” reflects our deep commitment to those who often go unseen, unheard, or underserved. The West End Community Empowerment Project (WECEP) of Lexington, Inc. was established in 1995 by dedicated community members Tanya S. Clark, Melvin E. Cowan, Sr., and Dora M. Hudson. and Dane Wilson. WECEP was established as a solution for violence prevention in the community, providing support and services to families and children in the Georgetown Corridor. Incorporated in 1996 and achieving 501 C3 non-profit status in 1998, WECEP has grown from serving adult community needs to focusing on the vital out of school time for children aged 5-17. We believe in the power of community to overcome challenges and unlock potential, aiming to create a vibrant, engaged community dedicated to family values, health and wellness, educational opportunities, and civic and economic development.
