Westmoreland County Animal Response Team

We are the Westmoreland County Animal Response Team (CART). We are like the Red Cross or Fire Department, but for animal related emergencies. We are called in by 911 to assist in an emergency call involving domesticated animals - pets to farm animals. We can assist in many ways. We can provide temporary shelter at the time of a disaster, such as a fire, flood, or evacuation. We also handle technical rescue calls such as a horse over a hillside, or an animal stuck somewhere.

Our team serves to educate the public on pet safety and emergency preparedness for animals through public tabling events and presentations. We are a 100% non-profit, all volunteer organization that is dedicated and ready to respond to help animals at any time all year round. Your donations will go 100% towards equipment, animal supplies and other needs our clients might have!

We have also provided a program for individuals or businesses to sponsor Pet Oxygen Mask sets for our counties' Fire Departments, EMT's and Police. In addition to providing these specialized Pet O2 sets, we also give them free training on how to use them properly, as well as training in Basic Pet First Aid and animal CPR. We have been able to provide over 250 mask sets to over 75 departments in Westmoreland and Fayette counties so far, but we still have many more fire trucks that need sets!

We also have SIX equipment trailers (each specialized for some type of animal related response) that are currently housed outside. Therefore, we are looking for additional funding to be able to build a CART Department Building, so that our equipment and supplies can be out of the damaging weather and be locked up in safe location.
