We Stories

A nonprofit organization

We Stories creates pathways for White families to engage in racial equity work, and galvanizes momentum towards racial equity work. We employ a cohort-based model and enroll groups of 75-100 families three times a year into our Family Learning Program. Enrolled families receive a set of diverse children's books; resources to strengthen family conversations about racism; a guided learning experience that helps examine the intersection between family life and the long legacy of racism in policy and practice; and a community of parents exploring similar themes. Our ongoing community and programmatic offerings help families deepen their capacity for advocacy and action. We Stories families are speaking up and making change in their homes, their schools, their communities, and across the region.

We see the process of change each and every day. We see change add up family by family. We see change add up month by month.

In 6 years, we've enrolled nearly 1500 families with thousands of children across 100 regional zip codes, and provided materials, support and programming for more than 25 schools and 24 libraries throughout the region.

After just 12 weeks of enrollment in our Family Learning Program, we typically see that 90% of parents are comfortable talking about racism with their children after We Stories as compared to 20% at program start. And in our most recent cohort, we found that 100% of respondents agree or strongly agree that they are now connected to other parents who care about racism as compared to 56% beforehand, and 25% of respondents report taking action as an advocate MORE than they had before the start of the program.

Our model works, and we have the proof. But lasting change will take all of us...or at least many more of us.
