Woman's Cancer Association of the University of Miami

A nonprofit organization

The Woman's Cancer Association of the University of the Miami (WCA) has a long history of raising funds to support researchers and doctors of the University of Miami and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Founded in 1959, the WCA is a non-profit organization with a strong track record of fundraising and contributing funds towards cancer research, patient care, and education. The WCA is a 100% volunteer organization.

Celebrating our 64th anniversary in 2023, we have raised more than $14 million for cancer research over the past 6 decades. In 2018, the Lennar Foundation Medical Center's fourth-floor lobby was named in honor of the WCA. We are proud to have partnered with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center in its quest for National Cancer Institute (NCI) Designation by committing to $1,000,000 over four years. Sylvester is one of two cancer institutes in Florida with this prestigious designation.

Since 1999, Miami Country Day School has had an annual "Walk with Purpose" fundraiser (formerly known as "Walk the Walk") every October which has raised more than $850,000 for Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and the WCA. Miami Country Day Students students organize and plan the event. This year, the event is scheduled for October 14, 2023.

The WCA also helps cancer patients and their families with financial assistance through The Silver Lady Fund. Staff from Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center reach out to the WCA for immediate help when there are no other options.

The WCA owns and operates the Bargain Box Thrift Store at 1350 West Flagler Street in Miami and raises funds through the sale of donated items.
