Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf

A nonprofit organization

The Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf provides the highest quality educational programs and services for deaf and hard-of-hearing students of all ages. Students participate fully in every aspect of campus life. WPSD understand that each deaf and hard of hearing child is unique. In response, the School builds our programs to meet the students' academic, social and emotional needs. It is our mission and our goal to help each child reach his/her fullest potential and to succeed in life.

The Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf is a non-profit, tuition free school, committed to student growth and achievement. Founded in 1869, WPSD provides quality educational services and a complete extracurricular program to Deaf and hard-of-hearing children from Kindergarten through Grade 12. WPSD believes that students need to be challenged, given the opportunities to stretch their imaginations and step beyond their everyday experiences. The School collaborates with families to design an Individualized Education Plan that matches the goals and strengths of their child. Whether the goal is to transfer to a mainstream school or graduate from WPSD, our professional education team works together with the child and the family to achieve success in the classroom and after graduation. WPSD offers an all inclusive communication/language environment with an emphasis on the development of both English and American Sign Language.
