We pride ourselves on being a small non-profit with big impact potential. That impact can be on a big scale running financial aid workshops for 3,000 students in Kern County, or being able to simply provide a computer and internet access in our office so that one student can work on college applications.
We know that educators at the K-12 and Higher Education level are doing their part to ensure that more kids in Kern County have access to a college education. At Youth 2 Leaders we like to view ourselves as "gap fillers." We go to bat for the most disadvantaged students in Kern County. Although our doors our open to everyone, we dedicate alot of resources to help English learners, undocumented students, foster youth, and first-generation students from low income backgrounds.
Our favorite quote comes from one of our pre-college camp participants who wrote a letter to our staff and board of directors; "One day we will pay all of you back by going to college and becoming someone in life." That's the impact that we have at Youth 2 Leaders.
Youth 2 Leaders Education Foundation (Y2LEF) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization working to help low-income and underrepresented students plan and pay for college. We are committed to helping more youth obtain post-secondary credentials, college certifications, and degrees that lead to meaningful employment. Since our inception, we have worked to increase college access and entry for young people across the Southern Central Valley and have expanded that work to support promising practices that lead to college persistence and completion.
Throughout the past 30 years, Youth 2 Leaders Education Foundation has risen to the forefront of college readiness and success efforts in Kern County. We have awarded over two million dollars in scholarship funds, and we serve nearly 3,000 youth on a yearly basis through our various initiatives. All of which would not be possible without our generous sponsors for helping us in our endeavor to shape the bright minds of the future.
