York Adventure Camp was started by a group of local parents to give children the opportunity to have brand new experiences away from home. We hold two summer camps each year: one for girls and one for boys. Each camp is held with the goal of giving campers opportunities to develop leadership, develop lifelong skills, make new friends, and create memories that will last a lifetime. Campers are given the unique opportunity to choose what they wish to do at their week of camp giving them the chance to do something they enjoy and experience something new. Every day grants new opportunities with new experiences being offered each year.

During the weeklong summer camp, York Adventure Camp offers a day camp and York’s only sleep away camp. Sleep away camp allows campers to receive and send home mail to loved ones, to participate in evening activities like campfires and movie nights, and to decorate their own sleeping area to make their own home away from home.

Natalie, a camp nurse and group leader, recalled many memories of different activities. Her and her young group of campers had a blast canoeing, fishing, seeing a young bird release, and watching a guest educate the group on bats. She recalled that some campers came from out of town just to attend camp. With a wide variety of activities like cooking, CPR, and slip and slides, the camp really stands out as a camp of memory making.

“My girls have been going to camps for about 5 years now and this was by far their favorite!!!! The songs they learned will be memories they have forever. ...yes they are still singing them!!!”

“A special thanks to all that worked so hard to make this camp possible. This was our first year and my daughter came home every day with news of her day. She really enjoyed learning new things. I enjoyed the lessons in team building she learned along the way, and the sense of independence she felt in making her own choices in registration while planning her activities, and during the days at camp.”

Transportation is offered from York to the camp in Hanover every day. We feed all campers lunch and a snack each day. In addition, sleep away campers will also receive breakfast, dinner, and an evening snack. We also provide materials, like art supplies and pool equipment, for campers to be able to participate in activities.

The camp is entirely volunteer run with many years of experience backing the camp experience.

Donations are really appreciated to help keep costs down so our camp is more affordable, and due to Covid-19, we were unable to do fundraisers to gain these funds.

Summer camp is important for youth with its new experiences and unique environment. The outdoor setting and overnight away from home feeling of York Adventure Camp provide a new environment for learning and having new experiences. Camp is especially important at the current time as the virtual learning environment has kept kids mainly in their own homes, removing most social interaction.

For Covid-19, all CDC guidelines will be followed. Changes have been applied to camp to ensure the safety of everyone on the grounds. Frequent sanitation will be present, activities will be conducted outside as much as possible, groups will be made smaller with campers being kept in the same cohort as often as possible, and symptoms will be frequently looked out for.

Help us give our campers the best experience they can have!
