YWCA USA is the oldest and largest multicultural women’s organization in the world. Since 1908, YWCA South Hampton Roads (YWCA SHR) has been at the forefront of social movements that eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

For over 40 years, YWCA SHR has operated an emergency shelter—the only refuge in the City of Norfolk for families escaping domestic and sexual violence. In addition, our 24/7 crisis hotline offers immediate support to survivors in crisis, connecting them with safety planning, counseling, and emergency services whenever they need it most.

From trauma-informed counseling to emergency rehousing and safety planning, we meet survivors where they are and help them take their next courageous step toward healing. Whether escaping interpersonal violence, stalking, or human trafficking, every call to our hotline is answered with compassion, expertise, and hope.

Our commitment to equity extends beyond crisis response. Through public programs like the “Conversations that Matter” series, the Conference on R.E.S.T. (Racial Equity and Social Transformation), and custom equity and justice trainings for organizations, we spark dialogue and inspire action in workplaces and communities across Hampton Roads.

Your support helps keep our hotline open and our shelter doors wide for those who need us most.

Together, we can ensure that every survivor who reaches out for help — no matter the hour — hears, “You are not alone. We’re here.”
