Hi, Friends and Family!

This is Michiko and the Skinner Family. It has been nearly 10 years since we first met Javon when he was 18. We became Javon's family mentor. We are so proud of Javon, who earned his Associate degree from Miami-Dade College last spring!

While we try to offer Javon advice and guidance, he has taught us numerous lessons, insights, and brought us joy. Most importantly, he shows us how to find hope when people feel lonely, sad, or hungry. Javon has been in the foster system since he was just 3 years old. I cannot imagine living without family stability, but Javon has never held a grudge against his circumstances. Instead, he is one of the kindest and most pleasant people to be around.

Genesis Hopeful Haven (GHH) arranged for us to serve as the family mentor to Javon. This year on Give Miami Day, I decided to be the Champion Fundraiser for GHH to help them provide more shelter, education, and future opportunities for young adults who have aged out of the foster system. Please support me in supporting GHH!

Here is the message from GHH:

As Genesis Hopeful Haven (GHH) celebrates its 10th anniversary, we’re reminded of the tremendous needs of youth transitioning out of foster care in our community. In South Florida, well over 150 youth age out of foster care each year. Many of these resilient young people face the daunting task of building their lives without the safety net of a family or community.

Imagine facing adulthood without a network to rely on—no one to teach you to drive, no one to share holidays with, no one to call when you land your first job or need guidance during tough times. These are things many of us take for granted, yet they’re essential to feeling secure, loved, and prepared for life’s challenges.

GHH does more than teach life skills. GHH provides these young adults with a caring community, helping them build confidence, celebrate milestones, and learn the skills they need to become truly independent. But we can’t do it alone.

This Give Miami Day, I’m asking you to stand with me and support GHH. Your contribution will ensure that more youth have access to the mentorship, love, and stability they need to succeed. Whether it’s $30 or $305, every donation makes a meaningful difference for this organization hyperfocused on impact. Please join me in giving these young people the hope and community they deserve.
