There are currently 50 chimpanzees living at the Ngamba Island these range in ages from less than a year to 36years old. Chimps in captivity can live up to 60 years on average. The sanctuary's chimps were orphaned and lost contact with their families. They were however integrated in the community so they live as would have been in the wild. Three of the sanctuary chimps were rescued from Moscow and brought back to Uganda, these underwent terrible suffering but even those orphaned and never left Africa have very bad memories; Ikuru is one of them, she gets very traumatized and is sometimes observed rocking. Ikuru recalls the day her mother was shoot and throwing in the fire. All chimpanzees at Ngamba Island have unique and unfortunately they are mostly sad stories.
I am inviting to donate and make a difference in the life of orphan chimps.
