Igniting Lifelong Passion for STEM
Girls 4 Science offers quality programming in a non-competitive environment to help girls develop skills, self-esteem, awareness and relationships to overcome barriers that may prevent them from achieving greater success in studying science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and entering STEM careers.
Girls 4 Science fulfills its mission through its free Saturday STEM Academy, a six-week, year-round program for girls age 10-18 years, primarily from under-resourced areas of Chicago and its surrounding suburbs. The program model is based on evidence that science exposure and increased science literacy will equip young girls with the knowledge and confidence needed to pursue study in the sciences and careers in STEM. The Saturday STEM Academy offers separate classes for high school (grades 9-12) and elementary school (grades 4-8) students, which enhances the delivery of age-appropriate curriculum and hands-on laboratory experiments.
Girls 4 Science is the only free, year-round, non-competitive out-of-school STEM program for girls in the Chicagoland area. Girls 4 Science is into its second decade and continues to expand and enhance its program. We intend to keep the program free and without barriers for all girls who want to attend in our endeavor to create a sustainable pipeline for women of color in STEM careers.
