This is my son Daniel. He has a few things in life that he really loves-- video games, computers and Playmakers Baseball top the list.
You see, Daniel has Autism Spectrum Disorder. Because of this, playing sports with his typically developing peers in a "regular" sports league is very difficult for him. The games move too fast and are often too loud for him to really enjoy playing.
Enter Playmakers. Once we found this amazing sports program a whole new world opened up for Daniel. He was finally able to participate in sports and reap all of the benefits that sports offers to kids everywhere.
Playmakers has been a big part of Daniel's life since he was 7 years old. He's 15 now, so that's almost half of his life! He has learned so many important lessons through Playmakers, including how to hit, catch and throw a ball.
But more importantly, he has learned how to make friends, how to be part of a team, and how to stick with something. The Playmakers volunteers meet him where he is and help him to develop as both a player and a person.
Paseball is one of the few things that Daniel will sign up for consistently, mostly because of how amazing the volunteers are. They understand kids with special needs and tailor the games for the players' needs. Daniel has even tried other sports such as basketball and boccia through Playmakers. He liked them, but baseball is his favorite sport to play.
When Daniel plays baseball he gets off of his electronics for a little while and experiences the thrill of hitting a ball and scoring a run for his team. The donations that Playmakers receives through fundraisers such as this allow other kids with disabilities to have these experiences that most kids (and their parents) take for granted. I'd love for even more kids to have the chance to experience Playmakers Baseball.
Please consider donating to this amazing program. Everyone who donates through this page will receive a limited edition Daniel baseball card. Daniel (and I) thank you for your support.
