As the full-scale war against Ukraine moves into its third year, the suffering of Ukraine's people and animals has no end in sight. Breaking the Chains organization continues to take food and medical supplies into the dangerous conflict areas, frequently evacuating out cats and dogs in life threatening situations. For them to have room at their shelter in Central Ukraine for these furry refugees, they have to move out existing animals who have the proper vetting and are cleared to travel and find forever homes outside the country. While many of their dogs are finding homes in the EU and UK, very few homes are being found for the cats and kittens rescued.
Homeward Trails remains committed to helping rehome the cats that can safely make their way to the DC metro area in the US. In May, the kitties you see above are some of the felines that will be making the long trip to safety if we can raise the travel funds. Cats travel by ground from Ukraine to Romania where they take cargo flights to the US. It's expensive and requires navigating veterinarian paperwork across three countries. It's so worth it to see these precious cats thriving and living their best lives once safely in the US. Donations of any amount are needed and appreciated!
Our partner Crumbs & Whiskers cat cafe in DC also remains committed to hosting these wonderful kitties once they make it to DC. They can, as can our many adopters, attest to how amazing these Ukrainian rescued cats are: loving, social, ready for a lifetime of yummy food, lots of play, and safe, forever homes.
The rescue of these cats is only possible with your support. For every cat we evacuate out, two lives are saved by freeing up space for another animal who might otherwise suffer and die. Even if the war ends tomorrow, these cats are not out of danger, and the chances of adoption are next to none. Please donate and share to get them safely to the US!
