"RED WOLF ALERT" HIGHWAY SIGN!

Vehicle strikes are one of the greatest threats to wild red wolves in the northeastern North Carolina's red wolf country. The Red Wolf Recovery Program (RWRP) has been hard at work researching ways to to reduce this danger for the reds. Red wolf advocates and supporters have responded enthusiastically to the RWRP's recent use of mobile electronic signs to make drivers aware that red wolves may cross roads or be near highways.

GOOD NEWS! The "RED WOLF ALERT" SIGNS are working! Reports indicate that drivers are slowing down and paying attention. And the signs have doubled their impact by serving as a means of engaging in positive ways with local communities about the potential for the presence of red wolves in their area. Some signs are placed along highways and roads in closest proximity to remote red wolf release sites prior to release. When needed, these signs are moved to areas where tracking/monitoring indicate red wolves are active near roads.

But the red wolf population area is big and honeycombed with highways and bi-ways. Red wolves will benefit from another alert sign, and that's where we come in! Help us to make a gift of another "Red Wolf Alert" electronic sign to keep the wild reds safe! This is a perfect way for red wolf supporters to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the reintroduction (1987) of red wolves in the wild.

The first litter of wild-born red wolf pups since 2018 will soon be as big as their parents, and they will be expanding their travels to search for food and find territories of their own.

PLEASE CHIP IN! This is a powerful, direct and effective way to show your support for red wolf safety and for the dedicated work by the RWRP to recover these beautiful and beneficial native predators in the wild!
