A story from the field

Update posted 7 years ago

Hi all! Thank you for those of you who have already donated, and also to those who will in the next few weeks!

I would like to share a project made by one of the students who was on my team last year about our journey. He tells about his experience and perspective first hand, and it is a lot of fun to hear! Enjoy!

Hi!  I am back again doing a second year of fundraising for Student Diplomacy Corps (SDC), a non-profit which does wonderful work sending high school students around the world to learn about different people and cultures through life changing excursions. While SDC sends students to many locations and countries such as Spain, China, and New Zealand, I have had the honor of leading two groups of phenomenal students on the Drums for Peace trip to Japan which allows students to learn about many facets of Japanese culture from school life to tea ceremony to disasters ... to of course music and taiko (one of my passions)! Please help me support SDC on their mission of spreading peace through cultural understanding and human connections.

In order to get a sample of what the Drums for Peace Program was like, please click on the picture above. This was from my 2016 corps group.

WHAT IS STUDENT DIPLOMACY CORPS (SDC)?

Growing steadily since 2014, this summer SDC (https://sdcorps.org/) will send over 170 high school students around the world. Some will be learning how to be patisseries in Paris, France,  others will be working with farmers and ranchers in Uruguay learning about local culture and communities, while others yet will learn how to be anthropologists in Albania studying religion, government, and nature. All students participating in these programs receive at least partial scholarship and 80% of the travel and tuition costs are provided by charitable donations from folks like you, so please consider giving a tax deductible gift to the scholarship fund.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

If you are willing to help out, there are two things you can do:

The first is to make a contribution to SDC. There is no suggested donation, and any amount helps. Last year over $30,000 was raised through private contributions donations of $20, $50, $100, and $250. The average cost of sending one student on one of these life changing journeys is about $6000, and I am hoping to raise enough to support at least half of one scholarship student.

The second thing you can do is spread the word. Please share my site with people you think share the ideals of educational travel, and please encourage them to visit. If you can't contribute yourself, please pass the word to somebody who can afford to give in your place.

Thank you so much,

Andras
