i-tri’s goal is to teach the girls that they are CAPABLE, STRONG, and WORTHY.

Middle school is a vulnerable time for many.  Imagine how different your younger life may have been if you were taught the skills to recognize all your strengths & gifts; to love your body, not loathe it; to ask for help when you are in need and offer it when you recognize it in others; to see yourself as capable; to encourage, not criticize; to embrace the power of positive thinking; to achieve a previously unthinkable goal through hard work and dedication; to embrace that you are strong; to see the best in yourself and all those around you.

Through training toward the goal of a triathlon, i-tri teaches girls in grades 6-8  healthy skills to build self-confidence, positive body image, resiliency, friendship skills, determination, healthy nutrition, empowerment.  By race day they are transformed inside and out feeling beautiful and strong!  EVERY girl has completed the triathlon with the support of her coaches and fellow i-tri girls, even those who started the program unable to ride a bike, swim a stroke or run very far.  Imagine how powerful it is to complete something you never thought possible; that accomplishment will stay with an i-tri girl for life.

This is a quote from an i-tri girl,

"Crossing that finish line has been the most meaningful moment of my life. It made me believe in myself. That day I realized that I can do anything I set my heart to . But more importantly it inspired me to help others achieve their dreams and has impacted me in tremendous ways. I want to encourage others the way that i-tri encouraged me. I want to help people achieve their dreams, just like my coaches who helped me achieve mine. After my journey of crossing the finish line, I became an Alumnae Mentor for i-tri. Becoming a mentor for this incredible program taught me the power of giving back. It has sparked a motivation in me to help others. I want to help people, achieve their dreams, and feel good about themselves along the way. Crossing the finish line, taking that one step, having that one moment has made me who I am today."

These girls may begin the program thinking they are just training for a physical triathlon, but don't realize the biggest transformation really comes through the empowerment classes.  All of this is free to every girl participating removing economic barriers.  The program is now serving girls who attend middle school in the Sag Harbor, Springs, Montauk, Southampton & William Floyd school districts.

The cost for i-tri to train each girl is $2500 and is funded completely by donations.  This money pays for coaches for program leaders & empowerment classes, proper swim, bike and run instruction, nutrition classes, fun physical activity intro classes to build lifelong healthy habits (Zumba, karate, yoga, meditation, paddle boarding, etc.) sneakers and athletic wear for those who need it, bikes, race uniforms,  snacks, insurance and more.

Two of my daughters have now participated in the i-tri program and I have volunteered during race week prep.  I cannot fully express how wonderful this program is watching someone who couldn't ride a bike at all complete 10 miles or girls who were scared to get in the pool at the Y, swim in open water at Long Beach.

Your donation is an investment in the future, yours and ours. Self-confidence is replacing self-doubt, bullies are becoming positive leaders, smiles are replacing tears and "I can" is replacing "I can't".  I-tri is planting seeds that will only grow over time, but they need us.

i-tri has been recognized and been chosen to be part of the 'One Island Giving Day'.   One Island Giving Day is a 24 hour period of giving to help make Long Island stronger for all Long Islanders.  Every donation made can make a real impact and give i-tri and chance to win matching grants and prizes.
