This October, our LFS Drumming Community turns five years old, and over 120 students, some of whom just keep coming back. :-) One of my greatest joys in life is watching students grow through the study of African music. Together, we learn cultural humility, appreciation, and empathy as we learn about another culture through the ways that those folks put music together, and the rituals and beliefs surrounding it. I cherish the moments of healing, empowerment, and connection that I witness in our classes.
As we celebrate Louisville Folk School’s 10th anniversary, we’re looking ahead to the future with a renewed commitment to making our programs accessible to everyone in our community. This year, we’re raising $25,000 to fund a new ADA-compliant home In addition, these funds will support the expansion of our after-school youth programs, helping us reach more young people and introduce them to the folk traditions of Kentuckians.
I invite you to join me in supporting this vibrant music community.
