Open Door Community House has the goal of self-sufficiency for all those served. This is done through a variety of program ministries. Here is an impact story from one of our programs:
"I am a single mom of 3 children. We are domestic violence survivors.
I was frustrated, we had been through A LOT. I was tired of not getting anywhere. I wanted more for my family.
I took my children to the library often, and one day saw a flyer at the library about Circles at Open Door Community House. I went into Circles open minded, ready to understand and participate. I learned a lot, to use skills I already had, and to think ahead. I gained a support system and learned about resources. I shared everything I learned with my kids and took them with me each week. While I was learning about saving and budgeting, my kids were learning the same lessons in their meeting.
My Allies were really a rock for me. Having people that wanted my family to succeed, people who genuinely accepted me and were invested in me and my kids made all the difference. I had help now. I had people.
I’ve still struggled, but my life has steadily improved. I worked at 2 fast food restaurants trying to make ends meet when I started Circles. I wanted out of that. I knew I was meant to and able to do more. I now manage a nail salon with 20 technicians under me.
I have a home and recently bought my first car. Having my own transportation is so great and gives me more time with my family and not on a bus.
After graduating from the Circles program, I continued to participate to keep growing and improving myself and my situation. Now I am serving as an Ally myself, to give back to the program that helped me. I want to be there for someone the way Circles and Open Door were there for me.
Please consider giving to this very important ministry with patient people who care and see others who are overlooked. I'm empowered and my life has changed because of Open Door Community House."
