The DeKalb County CASA Program recruits, screens, trains and supports community volunteers to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Education Advocates. These volunteers serve as the eyes and ears of the court and the voice of the child they serve. They work to ensure that the child's needs are met and work to attain permanent placement for the child as soon as possible. During the COVID-19 pandemic, these volunteers have adjusted to the many challenges the pandemic has brought to ensure their CASA kids were safe and supported. They visit the children more often, virtually, to see the child and check in on their well-being. They attend virtual court hearings. They continue to check in with case managers, attorneys, social workers, foster placements, parents, and others involved in their CASA child's case. These everyday heroes are there for their child.
Now that the holidays are upon us more challenges arise. Many foster families are facing financial hardships due to COVID-19. Our children are often separated from their siblings and other loved ones. At the holidays, this separation is even more difficult. While we cannot "fix" all that they are going through, we aim to make the holidays a little brighter. We hope to provide assistance for foster families with the groceries needed for traditional holiday meals. We also aim to provide gifts and gift cards for 140 of our CASA kids to bring a little holiday joy.
Your tax-deductible donation will be used to provide holiday meals and purchase gifts and gift cards for 140 of the children we serve.
