Birthday Gifts

This year, I’m asking friends and family to help me raise $1,000 to support the new playground at DC Scholars Public Charter School in Ward 7.

DC Scholars opened in 2012 and now serves about 500 students from PK3 through 8th grade. It’s a school built around high expectations, joy, and the belief that every scholar can achieve at the highest levels.

Right now the school is working to build a new playground designed for every stage of childhood — from our youngest scholars learning balance and coordination to middle schoolers building strength, confidence, and teamwork. The project will create three developmentally appropriate play zones so every student has a safe space to move, play, and grow.

Research consistently shows that when kids are active, they focus better in class, build stronger social skills, and improve academically. This playground will support hundreds of students every day.

The full project is about $500,000, covering site preparation, safety surfacing, new equipment, shade structures, and installation.
