Yesterday we attended a family march for Black Lives Matter.  The kids made signs and together we marched (while socially distant) chanting Black Lives Matter and Kids Want Justice - the march led to many great discussions about our community, history and action. On the car ride home we each shared something we thought about while marching, Ruthie shared that she'd like to do something more to help and for her birthday she could raise money.  We talked about what specific areas of the cause she could donate to and decided to help kids.

We researched organizations working to provide opportunities to learn new things just like Ruthie is privileged to learn in her school.  

Black Girls Code's mission is to increase the number of women of color in the digital space by empowering girls of color ages 7 to 17 to become innovators in STEM fields, leaders in their communities, and builders of their own futures through exposure to computer science and technology. To provide African-American youth with the skills to occupy some of the 1.4 million computing job openings expected to be available in the U.S. by 2020, and to train 1 million girls by 2040.  Learn more at:
