Hello Friends!

This winter I will be serving with New York City Relief through Gordon College. New York City Relief serves and helps people in NYC experiencing homeless by providing food, hygiene products, and resources to help people move out of homelessness. They work one on one with people to listen, provide counsel, and connect with them with organizations that can most directly meet their needs. Most importantly, New York City Relief staff and volunteers spend time connecting with people, building friendships and praying with them.

I chose to be a part of this trip and learn how to love and serve our homeless friends because I was convicted that I needed to love those in my own neighborhood, instead of seeing service as something I only do overseas.  Growing up close to NYC and going there often, I know I haven't always treated the homeless with compassion or respect, too often glancing the other way. I want to change this and learn how to love and serve those in my own area.

To prepare for our trip, the Gordon College NYC Missions team is meeting regularly for team-building, fundraising, and training. We are led by two students who have worked with NYC Relief multiple times before. Our goal is to be a prepared and cohesive team so we can support NYC Relief's work as much as possible.

Donations go towards: accommodations, transportation, food, with left-over money donated to NYC Relief
