Fate Winslow to Walk Free After 12 years in Prison

In September 2008, Mr. Winslow, who had recently became homeless, was approached by a plain-clothed, undercover officer looking for sex workers and marijuana. Mr. Winslow borrowed a companion’s bike and went to look for marijuana for the officer. He returned 10 minutes later with two dime bags of marijuana worth $20 per the officer’s request. For his efforts, the officer gave Mr. Winslow $5 for food. Mr. Winslow was arrested for distribution of marijuana to the officer. Mr. Winslow had no history of selling drugs and was not a known drug dealer. Homeless and hungry, Mr. Winslow attempted to make a few dollars which led to his conviction and life sentence.

Today Fate Winslow, sentenced to life imprisonment for selling $20 worth of marijuana to a plain clothed police officer in Shreveport, Louisiana in 2008, was resentenced to 12 years with credit for time served.  He should be released from Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola immediately following recalculation of his time by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections (DOC).
