Donate and help us pay Cerqua Rivera's diverse artists for the first month of the 2021 season

$5,000 goal

We are long-time fans of Cerqua Rivera and last year really showed us what the company was made of.

In the midst of an unprecedented global pandemic and an historic social justice movement, the company re-made its season in just a few months (when that normally takes a year or more) and kept its artists working - making art that helped us all process a trying year.

Now, for 2021, they are keeping their foot on the gas and we're asking your help to make their amazing plans a reality.

Please help us raise $5,000. That will help underwrite pay to Cerqua Rivera's multitalented, multicultural collective of artists in April - the first official month of the 2021 season. Your donation will literally put a local artist to work. In the past year, haven't we all been reminded of how much we need art and artists in our lives?

Now...

Cerqua Rivera plans to announce its season in a few weeks, but as a special friend you get a sneak peek!

Cerqua Rivera will undertake four projects in 2021:

IDENTITY CITY - Directed and curated by Wilfredo Rivera, with choreography by Shannon Alvis and music by Joe Cerqua - The second year of this four-year exploration of gender identity and the journey of a Trans dancer.

SHIVER - Choreography by award-winning, nationally renowned Stephanie Martinez and music by company cofounder Joe Cerqua - Stephanie returns to Cerqua Rivera to reimagine her 2016 piece about a woman's journey, shaped by her own experience as a Latina artist and arts leader

SOUL REMEDY - Choreography by 3Arts Award winner Monique Haley and music by 2016 Chicagoan of the Year in Jazz Pharez Whitted - The launch of a 3-year exploration of the Aesthetic of the Cool and how Black artists have shaped arts and culture

MOOD SWING - Directed and curated by Wilfredo Rivera, with choreography by Rivera, Shannon Alvis, Monique Haley, and Katlin Bourgeois, and music by Joe Cerqua - The company returns to these four solos made last year in response to the pandemic and social justice movement with several more months of perspective to shape their responses

The company will make art with all safety protocols in place for the health and well-being of its artists and audiences. Plans for a full schedule of Inside/Out and concert performances, with virtual and/or socially distanced practices as appropriate, currently being scheduled. 2021 Season Kickoff tentatively planned for April.
