At the Justice & Accountability Center of Louisiana (JAC), we see this reality every day. Since 2011, we have helped thousands of people clear eligible criminal records, restore opportunity, and rebuild their lives. When a record is expunged, doors open, jobs become possible, families stabilize, and futures change.

But too many people never reach us.

Expungements in Louisiana are complicated and expensive, often costing $550 per arrest record just to file. Many eligible individuals live in rural communities, work multiple jobs, or lack transportation and childcare. Even when they qualify for relief, they cannot attend a legal clinic or navigate the process alone.

So their past follows them, sometimes forever.

A New Solution: Second Chances from Home

To break this barrier, JAC created the ExpungeLouisiana App, a first-of-its-kind tool designed to bring access to justice directly into people’s homes.

Instead of waiting months for a clinic appointment, individuals can now:

• Complete eligibility screening online

• Prepare their expungement petitions step-by-step

• Print their completed documents

• Take them directly to the Clerk of Court to file

For someone juggling work, family, and financial hardship, this isn’t just convenience.  It is access.
