Last year, I decided to run the marathon in Nashville this April, and shortly after I decided to raise money for Barefoot Republic in the process. Like running is for me, Barefoot is where kids find significance. It is where kids get to experience things they never would otherwise. And for many, it is their sanity and their saving grace.
Well, like everything else, the race has been postponed. I still planned to raise money as I could over the next few months, but initially, dropped my training back to "normal" levels for the time being. Then, our fearless leader Derek came up with a crazy alternative for race weekend. Run 4 x 4 x 48 (4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours = 48 miles) to raise money & awareness for Barefoot. Because the need is greater now more than ever.
Due to coronavirus shutdowns, Barefoot has lost crucial income from their retreat center & fundraisers, which help provide camp scholarships for over half the kiddos who attend. Those kiddos who are going to be in desperate need of some LIGHT at the end of this long, dark tunnel. The ability to host camps this summer literally hangs in the balance.
And so I press on. For a purpose. For a great[er] cause. With my eyes set on April 24th-26th. It's going to look a lot different from what I initially planned. I am nervous. But I am also excited. For the lessons to learn, the stories to tell, and the difference to make.
I would LOVE to raise $100/mile = $4800. If you give $25, I will write your name on the bib I wear for each run segment. If you give $50, I will add a song of your choosing to my playlist. And if I reach my goal, I will wear a tutu for the entire thing.
So, will you support our insanity? Will you consider partnering with us in supporting Barefoot to help send some kiddos to camp this year? Will you come along on the journey?
