Life is mostly what we make it,
Filled with sunshine or with storm
Just whichever way we take it
Sad or cheery, cold or warm.
"Life is mostly what we make it" – Elder O. C. Hampton
When we sang this Shaker text as part of our “Songs Both Great and Small” virtual concert in April, the words captured the spirit that has sustained the Capitol Hill Chorale through this most challenging and strange period of its history. Our singers, under the steady direction of Artistic Director Frederick Binkholder and a dedicated Board of Directors, have found ways to keep making and sharing music and – at least as important – to sustain our musical community.
The Chorale has made the most of this time, meeting weekly for rehearsals over Zoom and creating virtual recordings and performances. Our supporters have been instrumental in enabling us to keep the organization afloat despite the absence of normal concert revenue. On behalf of everyone associated with this wonderful organization – thank you!
As we look toward the future, the theme for this fundraising campaign and our upcoming virtual concert on July 2nd is Row On. Quite literally, Row On is the title of a piece by our Composer in Residence, Kevin Seigfried, that we will debut at our concert. But it also represents the direction of the Chorale, as we move out of this pandemic reality and return to sharing our music in person with treasured friends and neighbors. We are proceeding carefully and with a clear dedication to what science is telling us, so while we don’t know exactly when or how this will happen, we feel it coming, and we’re taking steps to be ready.
If you’re able, please consider a contribution to our summer fundraising campaign. Your gift of any amount will help us continue to support our staff, invest in technology, return to renting rehearsal space, and enable singers to join us regardless of individual economic circumstances. We will be grateful for a budget that is as ready as our spirits and voices are!
As you consider a possible contribution, please also keep a lookout for more information about our upcoming concert.
Again, thank you.
