We have a mission to cultivate community, magnify voices, and grow future leaders. We do this by having monthly dinners in the apartment complexes located near Buford Hwy in Brookhaven, Chamblee, Doraville, and Dunwoody, GA. At these dinners we discuss community issues like maintaince neglect, rent raises, wage theft, and immigrant rights. When community members have questions we bring in experts from local organizations to attend the dinners and speak directly with concerned members of the community.
Our tenants rights curriculum is unique to Dekalb and Gwinnett county and is focused on addressing the issues of renters who are also foreign born. Our leadership model relies heavily on lifting up community members who are already engaging the community as a member of the PTA or church member who need formal training on how to rally their neighbors towards an action which benefits the entire neighborhood. There are very limited renter's rights in GA compared to other states and the courts tend to favor landlords/property management companies. We work with each person and apartment complex individually to create unique change for each case.
We also engage local youth through a civic participation fellowship where they knock doors and make calls to remind the community of important elections.
