Sometimes things touch your soul. When I first heard the story of Jason Kinzler and his tragic and untimely death during the Fifth Third River Bank Run, I connected to losing a parent at a young age. I lost my dad, Charlie, when I was 25 which was 20 years ago. He was not only my dad but became my best friend and mentor.

Charlie Gardner taught us to love freely and give generously.  As a dad he was always present in our lives.  He worked hard so he could be with us whenever we needed him.  He would often give anonymously to those who were in need.  He was kind to everyone and simply a great dad.

This year I will be running my fourth River Bank Run in memory of my dad while raising money for the Jason Kinzler Family First Foundation. This amazing Foundation helps families dealing with the loss of a parent because of a heart attack.

Losing a dad at 25 was hard enough but I cannot imagine how hard it would be to lose a parent as a child.  I hope you will join me to help this wonderful foundation build the resources they need to help the next family who lost a child and at the same time help me celebrate my dad's memory as run this race.

Hold your loved ones close and make memories as tomorrow is not guaranteed.
