Dogs can fit in cat beds!
Hey there, my name is Shila and do I have a story to tell! I am hoping you will take a few minutes to read it as I owe my life and health to Elmbrook Humane Society (EBHS), and I am trying to raise funds so they can help another dog like me (or cat or rabbit or whoever is in need).
Last September, my family returned me after three years. I had injured myself and they could not take care of me. I sure did injure myself...after being seen by a local veterinary clinic and then a specialist, they told me I had torn ACL's in each of my hind legs and that they estimated I had been living this way for 2 years! Duh, I could have told them that! I consider myself a tough girl, but 2 torn ACL's with no pain medication...yeah, it was a bit much.
I was really happy to overhear the great staff at EBHS arranging a surgery date and a foster home to recuperate in. During surgery, it was learned I also had a torn meniscus, again, I could have told them that. Recovery was tough but after about 16 weeks, I was given the all clear by my surgeon. Woot-woot, I could finally start being a dog again - taking walks that lasted more than 2 minutes, running in the yard, playing with my stuffies, snuggling with my foster family on the couch, car rides, and more! And, best of all, I was in no pain.
EBHS also noticed my eyes were cloudy. They had me seen by a local eye specialist. The eye guy said I had an eye condition that made it look like I was looking through a dirty window (again, I could have told them that) and that unfortunately there is nothing that can be done to correct or maintain where I am at now and could go blind as I get older. Hmmm, not sure I liked that prognosis but it is what it is so why dwell on it - I am not so no one else should! Besides, I know my family will take care of me if that ever happens....
I have since been adopted and have a pretty awesome Husky sister and a cat that I am still learning to co-exist with. I have a family who loves me who I know will never let me suffer again and is my forever family.
I am asking for a little help as it is kinda hard for dogs to find jobs. I want to raise funds to help EBHS provide at least another surgery to a fellow animal in need. The approximate cost to repair one ACL similar to mine is about $2,500 from start to finish. Will you please help me raise these funds to help another animal like me.
Thanks for reading my story, thanks for considering a donation, and if you will excuse me, I have to get back to living life! Woof!
