The Dot Experience will be more than a museum. A factory tour will also be available to show the production of braille textbooks and the process it takes to put together a textbook. The tour will also include other parts of the production floor - the educational aids, large type and graphics where the tactile graphics are made. Rae Bandy, an Illustrator Technician at APH and part of the Production team is excited that people will get to see all that we do at APH and the history of the products that APH has produced and machines that APH has used to produce braille.
Rae has also started creating tactile graphics for The Dot Experience education and outreach programs. Rae takes existing pictures and illustrations to create the tactile graphics that are then printed with raised surfaces making them accessible for those that are blind and low vision. She enjoys playing with the textures and lines and elements of art to assist in the best way she can so that the pictures can come across once it’s been made tactile.
Rae believes that museums are important because the information one can learn from whether it may be something like history or another culture. And with The Dot Experience not only will people be able to learn but one will also be able to experience with touch and sound. With your support for The Dot Experience during Give for Good will help ensure that everyone will be able to learn in the most accessible museum!
