Update #1

Update posted 3 months ago

Hello All:

Well time for an update - It has been a couple of months since I made the decision to once again return to Mexico this summer and work with the Baja Bound group and a bunch a high school kids from church to build five houses that a deserving family can turn into a home. I attended my second training this past Wednesday and I could not help but notice that there were only two other adults in the room that was filled up with some 20+ kids - I am so looking forward to working with these kids to be the hands and feet of Jesus and to see how God may use our talents, energy, and love for others south of the border. I hope that I can be a bit more prepared this year - maybe a little more rested up - and able to share a skill or two with the kids as we work together during the long demanding and fulfilling hot days.

To be honest watching these kids is humbling at times in knowing some of their testimony at such a young age. On Wednesday we took a few minutes to write down a sentence or two for three questions to help us be prepared to share with someone that we have yet to meet - How were you before you knew Jesus? How did you come to know Jesus? How are you now after you came to know Jesus? I did the same as the kids and our Mission Coach Ryan picked one person from each table to come up front and share if they would do so - several kids did - some with extra encouragement - as I too encouraged a young lady Brooke that volunteers in the Kids Adventure Land K-1 group with me on Sunday to step up from her table. Then came the chant as I sat at a table with another guy that will be going on the trip "Mr. Jim, Mr. Jim, Mr. Jim..." These kids have a way of getting you to step out of your comfort zone and I did share a bit. We will have another training each month for the next several months to come together as a church family and then go share God's love.

Not to be too long winded I can say without any doubt that God has been good to me once again this year to have so many wonderful people to have come along side me and I am truly grateful for your prayers and support. I pray that I can be a good example in the lives of those around me both at home and while on this Mission trip, and I would ask that you continue to pray for our preparedness, safe travels, and that we will know Jesus and make him known...

God Bless...

Jim

MEXICO, ENSENADA

July 20- July 27, 2025

Greetings Family & Friends!

I hope this letter finds you well and in good spirits! Maybe this year this letter is not as much of a surprise for you. Especially for those of you that partnered with me last year for a God-driven opportunity to serve others less fortunate than I and to share His love with others.

Last year, for my first mission trip, God led me to join 31 adults and high school kids from Oak Pointe Church who traveled to Ensenada, Mexico to work with the group Baja Bound. We partnered with them to build three houses for different families. These families would otherwise have been living out of a makeshift shack made of whatever could be found. Working alongside our Baja Bound construction leads and the family that would live in the house, together we built these homes so they could grow in God’s love and His blessing. Many of our kids still use “What’s App” to keep in touch with the kids they met down there. I have also been keeping in touch with one of the construction leads from our build team who had just got married a year earlier and who just welcomed their wonderful little daughter into the world about a month ago.

So now a year later and I have been looking forward to returning once again to see how God may use my gifts to bless another family, share the gospel with a great bunch of high school kids to learn about Jesus, and to bless those that are around me however the Lord may see fit. This time I will join more than 60 adults and mostly high school kids to build five houses – how amazing it is to bless five families this time. Would you partner with me once again, or even for the first time, to accept the opportunity that God has provided to go and be his hands and feet to build his kingdom one home, one family, and one blessing at a time?

Our first mission trip meeting was on Wednesday, January 15th. This meeting was for the purpose of learning about and training for the many things that will be required to go on a mission’s trip. I learned a lot working alongside a great group of kids! In serving alongside so many last year, God was also working on me and my heart. I was comfortable working on a house, but I also stepped out of my comfort zone and led a small group Bible study! Even in the times that I was not sure what to say, I felt the Lord’s leading and guidance as I shared my testimony and His truth to others.

So, would you please join my team of individuals and prayerfully support me for safety while traveling in another country, and that we would be able to accomplish all that God has for us to do? Please pray for me to know Jesus and make Him known as I work together with my church family to show Gods’ love to others in whatever way that the Lord would ask of me.

I have been a long-term disciple project for my good friend, Dave, which I had met at church many years ago. He told me to memorize some Bible verses so that I would know how to answer when I was someday asked a question. These are a couple of my favorites:

  • 1st Peter 5:6-7 says to “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”
  • And Proverbs 3:5-6 says to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

That last one assures us of Gods’ guidance and Lord knows I need all I can get. Last year I wrote about one of my granddaughters asking me about the Bible and getting baptized while we were in NC visiting. This past year saw both of our granddaughters get baptized – praise God! Please pray that I may continue to encourage their spiritual journey and be a Godly example to my family and those around me. I used to shy away from opportunities to share God’s love and His Word, but, today, I try to listen and watch more with God’s attention (at times) how that I can be a blessing to others however that may be. This may be a kind word or even a prayer right at that moment when someone may need it more than we know.

Lastly, I would like to extend an opportunity to you. Would you be willing to partner with me financially as well? My total cost for this trip is $2000. That amount covers the cost of a plane ticket, other travel expenses, and both lodging and food at the Baja Bound campus. I know that God will provide for this need in some way, shape, or form, but I would like to ask you to be a part of this opportunity to help some very needy people. I would be extremely grateful with whatever you could do to support this endeavor. In this way, this becomes our opportunity to serve. At the very least, I would appreciate your prayer support!

Thank you again for considering how you can be a part of this wonderful opportunity! I look forward to having you on my team as we partner together.

Sincerely,

Jim Griebe

God Bless
