Nola to Angola is an annual solidarity bicycle ride fundraiser founded in 2011 that supports the efforts of organizations working to mitigate and reverse the impacts of the U.S. prison system. Biking each mile in solidarity with families who travel long distances to connect with their incarcerated loved ones, the ride educates people about the ways in which mass incarceration works in tandem with other systems of oppression, such as poverty and white supremacy, to harm members of our communities.
This year will be my third time both as an organizer and participant in the ride!
This year, the funds raised will go to Cornerstone Builders’ Bus Project, which provides free monthly transportation from New Orleans and Shreveport for folks to visit loved ones incarcerated in Louisiana prisons.
I was introduced to Nola to Angola through my work at the First 72+. A reentry organization committed to reducing the recidivism rate for those coming home from incarceration, we were lucky to receive funds from Nola to Angola the past 2 years to help us fund our housing voucher program, which provides housing to clients most vulnerable to homelessness upon returning home. I was immediately drawn to the mission of Nola to Angola and knew I wanted to get involved.
Since its founding, Nola to Angola has remained entirely volunteer-run. We support first-time riders and build connections between riders and local organizations working against mass incarceration.
I would love for you to help support me in this ride by donating to my fundraising page, as well as helping to spread the word! Grassroots organizations like Cornerstone strengthen our community through helping the people most impacted by our systems rebuild their lives. They are working to create a world outside the chains of mass incarceration. The money raised will provide direct support for individuals returning home to society to reconnect with their families and communities.
Thank you so much for your support. With love,
Chloe
