This picture was taken in June of 2016. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 throat cancer. By the grace of God, lots of prayers, the support of my wife Rhonda and my own determination to get well going through what one of the nurses described as the toughest treatment any of their cancer patients has to endure, I am still cancer free after ten years. My treatments consisted of three Chemo rounds, 35 radiation treatments and five surgeries. It was every bit as hard as they warned me. Probably even harder.
My mission is to help others battling cancer, to give council to men to look for the warning signs of tongue and throat cancer and offer support for cancer research. My type of cancer was caused by the HPV Virus and is type of cancer becoming more common among older men.
Until 2005 I was an avid distance runner. I have run multiple marathons and loved running until I developed osteoarthritis in my feet. I bought a bike in 2005 when I gave up running and have riden it thousands of miles, rode in multiple metric and century rides along with several week long state rides. Combining two of my passions is why I am riding in the 2026 C3 ride to Maine. Please donate generously to this great organization for cancer research.
All of us have been touched by cancer and all of us need to work together to fight this horrible disease. Just as my nurses warned me in 2016 about how tough my own fight would be, all cancer patients have similar stories of how they fought cancer. Please join my fight.
