Team Ruby: Weaving Our Community Together (Middle School)

Like threads in a tapestry, each student and family adds unique strength and beauty to our school's story. Our middle school students are exploring complex subjects through workshop-style learning that balances mini-lessons, collaboration, independent practice, and reflection. This fall, they're diving into Reading and Writing Workshop where they're finishing independent books, crafting persuasive letters with thesis statements, and exploring their own "Writing Territories" as developing writers. In Math Workshop, they're plotting coordinates in all four quadrants, finding area and circumference, and using rigid motions to prove congruence—building foundations for proportional reasoning and functions.

Whether they're pitching Genius Hour passion projects that meet community needs, learning French, Spanish, or Japanese in Foreign Language ELC, studying famous naturalists and building arthropod exoskeletons in Junior Naturalists, investigating journalism's role in democracy for the Blue Mountain Free Press, or researching cultures and religions in Civics and Economics, our Rubies are emerging as leaders who advocate with grit and curiosity. Weekly field trips to the Jessie Peterman Library support their growth as readers, writers, and independent learners.

Our Ruby class supports Neighbors Helping Neighbors because we understand that a truly magnificent tapestry requires every thread to be secure and valued.
