Spencer's IWRBR Fundraiser

I believe every child deserves to experience the confidence that comes from realizing they are capable of learning, growing, and succeeding.

Working in elementary education has allowed me to see just how important the early years of a child’s education can be. As a first-grade teacher at Atkinson Elementary, I have the privilege of helping students build skills that will follow them far beyond the classroom. Reading is a huge part of that foundation. When a child begins to see themselves as a reader, they are also beginning to see themselves as someone who can explore new ideas, communicate with confidence, and imagine new possibilities for their future. 

That is why the mission of I Would Rather Be Reading is so meaningful to me. I also serve as a Training and Curriculum Implementation Specialist with IWRBR, so I have the opportunity to be connected to this work both inside the classroom and through an organization committed to making literacy instruction more accessible to children in our community. 

As an educator, I want to use my experience, my voice, and the relationships I build to advocate for students and for the resources they need to succeed. Supporting children means more than teaching a lesson. It means creating environments where they feel supported, encouraged, and confident enough to keep trying.

For Give for Good Louisville, I am proud to support I Would Rather Be Reading and the children and families we serve. Every donation helps provide literacy support, enrichment opportunities, caring adults, and experiences that remind children that their potential is worth investing in.
