$4,000 goal

Marcus Bartley was a high spirited and charismatic young man who had been living in the SMU at Georgia Diagnostic & Classification Prison since 2018. Marcus suffered a massive stroke in his cell in August of 2021. After learning about his stroke and subsequent hospitalization about a week later, his family immediately began inquiring about a visit, or some form of contact with their loved one. Their requests and inquiries, however, were never approved by the Georgia Department of Corrections, due to "security" issues. Over the past 5 months, Marcus has endured additional medical crises while hospitalized, including open heart surgery, brain surgery and life threatening infections. Still, family was not allowed to see him -- the only contact was two brief phone calls during the month of December. With SCHR's assistance, in late January of this year, a visit was finally approved for family. This would prove to be too late, however, as Marcus succumbed to a severe case of sepsis and subsequent heart failure the day before the scheduled visit. All money donated will go to Mr. Bartley's family to assist with funeral and other end-of-life costs.
