Meet Raquel, she was born in El Callao, the vibrant port city of Peru, over 80 years ago. Her life has been one of resilience—raising a family, working tirelessly, and carrying the colors of her culture wherever she went. After moving to Washington, DC later in life, Raquel found herself longing for connection, joy, and purpose.

That all changed the day she walked into Vida Senior Centers. At Vida, Raquel was welcomed with open arms and a warm plate. She found more than just hot meals and health classes—she discovered a community. A place where her voice mattered. A place filled with music, art, and laughter.

From art programs to wellness activities, Raquel reconnected with her inner strength. The bilingual staff helped her feel seen and supported, and for the first time in years, she no longer felt alone. 

Now, at over 80 years old, Raquel lifts weights and smiles wide—not just because she can, but because she belongs.
