I started working for the Humane Society of Missouri in December 2005. I began working part time, until another practice I split my time at could grow enough for me to join them full time. Along the way, my position at HSMO grew and my position at the other clinic shrunk.
I have been blessed to be able to care for so many pets through both the shelter and HSMO's veterinary hospital; Animal Medical Center of Mid-America. There is a tremendous need for the services that HSMO provides. Rescue, Rehabilitate and Rehome are the goals for the lives of the animals we touch. However in many ways as we work to transform the lives of animals, we are working to transform our own lives. Throughout my time working for HSMO, I have been encouraged to further my skills, so that I could put them to use helping more clients and pets.
Joi is a dog that was surrendered to HSMO after being hit by a car. She required a leg amputation and physical therapy / rehabilitation. She is such a memorable patient not because of her injuries or the care she required, but because of her outlook on life. Despite the level of pain she came in with Joi, was always happy to see everyone and seemed to understand that every exercise we asked her to do was to help her get better. Because of animal lovers and supporters she was able to get the treatment she needed and find a wonderful new home.
