Women Engaged (WE) is a social justice initiative uniquely positioned at the intersection of integrated voter engagement and reproductive justice, organizing and mobilizing communities around issues paramount to Black women, femmes and girls. Since our founding in 2014 with our signature program - WE Vote. WE Rise! - we have conducted year-round c3 voter engagement and education to build power and provide leadership development specifically focused on Black Millennial and Gen Z women voters leading the charge to bring about racial justice and equity.
For the past 18 months, our voter engagement canvass teams have operated virtually - prioritizing the health and safety of both our staff and communities in the COVID-19 pandemic era. Many members of the communities we serve (and from which we recruit and hire) were hard hit by the detrimental effects of the pandemic - either disproportionately impacted by the ravages of the disease itself...or the resultant economic and financial fallout (from job loss to food, housing, childcare and transportation cost increases).
Now, as we navigate plans to return to in-person engagements, we are asking the Give828.org community to support the purchase of a company passenger van. The acquisition of this van will enable us to affordably transport staff to in-person engagement sites (including community events) and to help provide voters transportation to the polls (in the wake of sweeping voter suppression measures enacted by the Georgia General Assembly and Governor Brian Kemp this year, designed to decrease voting accessibility).
