Seven years ago, the Young, Black & Giving Back Institute (YBGB) began promoting a special day of philanthropy - Give 8/28 -for Black-led and Black-benefiting nonprofits.
Each year since we joined American Youth Football (AYF), Beacon House Falcons at least one team has leveled up to compete nationally in the Team Championship or All-Stars games in Orlando, FL in December. Participation in this tournament costs on average $25,000 per team. Beacon House teams and players are notified in November of their eligibility to participate. This year, we expect at least two teams to compete and hope to raise $50,000 by November in preparation.
Give 8/28 builds on the momentum created by Black Philanthropy Month by highlighting the importance of investing in organizations working directly in communities of color. Contributions throughout the month will support Beacon House's general operations.
On 8/28, we will honor the spirit of our black community with a special collection of donations specifically to support our AYD players' tournament travel. Our goal is to raise $8,280 on Monday August 28th.
