Support my fundraiser for (Un)Known Project and Unearth Hidden Histories!
In less than five years, (Un)Known Project has unearthed over 2,000 names of forgotten enslaved people and honored them through art and community collaboration.
Why this Matters? Because their stories are our stories.
We recognize the profound importance of learning from history. Enslaved people deserve to be remembered, and their stories offer life lessons that remain relevant today, providing insights into our current tensions and divisions.
In a time when discussions about race and our history with enslavement are being silenced, understanding our past is crucial. Without this knowledge, we lose sight of how we arrived at this moment. Healing begins with acknowledging the deep wounds left by enslavement and the ongoing erasure of Black lives and histories. By facing our past, we can move forward—together.
What Does Honoring Enslaved People Through Art Look Like?
- Original Plays: Featuring voices of enslaved Kentucky women.
- Public Art: Sculptures and monuments honoring the uncovered names.
- Community Programs: Genealogy workshops and book clubs to explore America’s relationship with enslavement.
- Name Reading Ceremonies: Honoring free and enslaved Black people buried in mostly unmarked graves in our local cemeteries.
Join us in honoring the past to build a better future.
