Jacob Mickley was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at two years old.  Now four, he has a big heart, fun personality and incredible challenges.  Jacob loves music, books, swimming, monster trucks, and playing with his younger brother Logan. Jacob is affectionate, adaptable and smart.  He can also be passive and demonstrate repetitive behaviors.  Jacob is great with adults; however he lacks socialization/interaction with peers.  Jacob has no sense of danger. Jacob also has poor proprioception which makes him accident prone.  We have made made several trips to the emergency room. He's had stitches twice and lost his two front teeth; all of which resulted from falls.  Jacob has been in OT, PT, Speech, Feeding, and ABA therapies.  He is currently in Pre-K part-time with an IEP.  We have applied for an Autism Service Dog for Jacob and are currently on the waiting list.  It can take up to a year for placement.  A service dog will help Jacob by providing safety, socialization/companionship, calming and with nighttime alerts.
