Jackie's Fundraiser for KAEE

Nature is the thread that ties my life together. When I was a young girl, exploring the wood and riding my bike were the most joyful experiences in my world. As I got older, hiking, camping, and climbing provided the adventures needed for a restless young person eager to see the world.

Now, nature provides a sanctuary where I can recharge and gain perspective. 

It is also a place of celebration!

Somewhere along the way I fell in love and wanted to share that with others. I pondered how I could really make a difference in the world and knew the power of a connection to the earth.  I started in the outdoor recreation industry but felt there wasn’t enough meaning. So my journey took me to Environmental Education where I found a professional home. 

I earned my degree in Natural Resources with an emphasis in Environmental Education (EE) . 

I worked in several EE and museum settings,  including at the Kentucky Children’s Garden.

And now I am sharing my passion with my K-4 science classes at Sayre School!

The goal of environmental education is to first connect people, especially children, to nature and then empower them to take action to protect it. The Kentucky Association of Environmental Education is the organization that supports the network of educators, both formal and nonformal, to ensure this happens. They provide training, conferences, and one of the best professional cultures I have ever been a part of.  And, impressively, are one of the strongest state affiliates of EE in the nation! I am honored to be on their board.
