Friends and family,
This is my 5th year being a part of our annual Nola to Angola bike ride, and in honor of my birthday later this month I'm asking for donations to my fundraiser! All donations will go to Cornerstone Builders’ Bus Project, which provides free monthly transportation from New Orleans and Shreveport for community members to visit loved ones incarcerated in Louisiana prisons in remote and inaccessible locations across the state.
Nola to Angola is a 170 mile solidarity bicycle ride fundraiser from New Orleans to the Louisiana State Penitentiary, formerly the Angola Plantation. Biking each mile in solidarity with families and communities who are torn apart by our prison system and are forced to travel long distances to connect with their incarcerated loved ones, we envision a world in which families and communities are not divided by mass incarceration, where everyone's basic needs are met, where all are provided the conditions to thrive, where all lives are seen as equally precious and indisposable.
This work means so much to me-- I have witnessed the violence, devastation, and desperation that our prison system creates and perpetuates-- and have also seen the way that keeping families connected during periods of incarceration has been a lifeline for many to survive the inhumane and unjust conditions of incarceration. Any donations to my fundraiser big or small are greatly appreciated!
With so much love,
Juliana
