Hey Ya'll.
This past winter I was sitting in a theatre for an inmate letter reading event hosted by Black and Pink. Listening to stories of folks impacted by the intersection of so many society pressures(race, class, gender identity, sexual orientation, ect) was eye opening and visceral. Not only were folks incarcerated in conditions any humane person would consider tortuous, but many of them also hold gender identities that put them in even more harms way. Their stories (told by a playhouse of extremely good actors) will stick with me through my dying breath.
I've always said "until the least of us is free, ain't nobody free" knowing that dehumanizing another person is the quickest way to dehumanize myself. With that in mind, my work with Black and Pink is an effort to get us all free.
To that end I am asking you to give. Support this incredible work. Not only does Black and Pink do national work with Inside Member Support, Pen-pal Programs, Advocacy for LGBTQ+ people impacted by incarceration, we also provide service support for folks when they get back out.
To that end, I am most excited for Opportunity Campus a 3-year, 3-million dollar project to create a housing and community space for young trans and other lgbtq+ system impacted folks.
Tena one of our Co-directors says that abolition work finds you and keeps you for life. Please join me on this journey.
