Fourteen years ago, I spent the last hot week of summer break glued to the television, watching the disaster of Hurricane Katrina unfold on the news. The US invasion of Iraq was in its second year, the war with the Taliban approaching its fourth anniversary.
These events - war, climate change, the criminal abandonment of poor folks by our government - deeply impacted me as a young person approaching my 18th birthday. I was unsettled and looking for answers, and ready for the first time someone invited me to join the movement.
This is a fundraiser for the Vermont Workers’ Center - my political home and vehicle for working to end the evils of war, poverty, racism and ecological devastation. I’m raising $500 to fund our work of organizing working people across our differences into a powerful movement for the right to healthcare, and all of our human rights.
Change happens when people organize into a social force for change. It won’t just happen by itself or by just electing the right politician.
I’m asking you to support our organizing work by making a contribution to this fundraiser, or to any of the other fundraisers on our team. Please consider donating, even just $5, to help us build a movement for a more just and humane world.
