Years ago, I coached various Highland Youth Recreation (HYR) teams on which my daughter or son participated. What a blast! Not sure who had more fun: the players or the coaches! And what a great way to get to know new folks in the Highlands!
More recently, my grandkids have been in HCM Daycare and, later, playing in HYR.
Over the last 10 years I have been on the HCM Board and currently serve as the immediate past president and chair the Advisory Council.
I am most excited by HCM's current exploration of potential new ways to serve older adults to better enable them to live longer in their homes.
Because of this, I'm raising $1,500 to help launch this new older adults initiative. Will you join me in bringing this new best practice to the Highlands and growing it to later serve all of Louisville?

Woven Together: Neighbors Helping Neighbors
At Highlands Community Ministries (HCM), we believe no one weaves this life alone.
Every week, we meet neighbors facing real crises—families on the edge of eviction, seniors choosing between groceries and medicine, parents working full-time yet unable to keep the lights on. Through our Individual & Family Assistance Program (IFAP), we provide emergency financial relief and food support so people can stay housed, stay safe, and stay connected.
This work doesn’t happen in a vacuum—it happens in community. It happens at the Highlands Community Campus, a repurposed church building that now houses not only our food pantry and senior services, but also partners like Unity of Louisville, Kentucky Refugee Ministries ESL classes, and Drag Daddy Productions. The space itself is a loom—and you, our neighbors, are the threads that give it life.
This Give for Good Louisville, we’re raising $25,000 to ensure our emergency assistance and food support can continue uninterrupted.
When you give, you’re not just helping a stranger—you’re strengthening the fabric that holds this neighborhood together.
Real Stories, Real Neighbors:
Barbara, a retired nurse, came to HCM after losing her job due to health issues. We helped her with rent and food. Today, she’s back on her feet—managing a wound care unit—and donates personal care items to give back.
Jane, a single mother, was hospitalized and fell behind on rent. She debated returning to work early—despite doctor’s orders—just to avoid eviction. Our support allowed her to rest, recover, and stay housed with her children.
John, now a history professor, relied on wraparound support from HCM during times of crisis. He credits the stability he received for helping him pursue his dreams.

Give now—and know that if you were ever in need, your neighbors would be here for you, too.
